FISKEN FISCAL FACTS VOLUME 1

Dear Client/Colleague;

I am absolutely delighted to restart the Fisken Fiscal Facts (FFF), the always informative and occasionally humorous electronic newsletter of Fisken & Company. Please note the new communication coordinates for Bernie Fisken which appear in the signatory section below.

The purpose of this edition of the Fisken Fiscal Facts is to inform you that Bernie Fisken will be conducting a Workshop on NPO Financial Management and to ask that you refer appropriate clients/colleagues that might benefit from attendance. Feel free to circulate this E-Mail to potential attendees.

The 2 day Workshop is entitled Introduction to Financial Management and will be held on Thursday 7 October and Friday 8 October at the International Red Cross Conference Center located at 2025 E Street, NW in Washington DC. The building is located on E Street, between 20th and 21st Streets. The closest Metro stops are Farragut West and Foggy Bottom.

The Workshop is being sponsored by the Association of PVO Financial Managers (APVOFM). Bernie has taught variations of this Workshop for 20+ years for a variety of sponsors including APVOFM, American University, George Washington University, and the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University. A particular treat at this year's Workshop will be presentations by 2 Senior Staff persons from Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman CPAs: Jim Larson ( Audit Partner) and Ian Schuman ( Client Services Manager)

Topics to be treated include:

  • accounting language for NPOs ( Non Profit Organizations)
  • model charts of accounts for NPOs
  • indirect cost rates
  • fringe benefit rates
  • organizational budgeting
  • project budgeting
  • US Government grant compliance

Persons who would benefit most from this Workshop are: entry level accounting staff; mid-level accounting staff who wish to learn more about NPO accounting and US Government grant accounting; mid-level program staff who have budget responsibility; and all staff wishing to know more about calculating overhead rates that meet US Government standards.
